Etienne de DURAND

Senior research fellow and Director of the Security Studies Center from 2006 to 2015

 

Etienne de Durand is an analyst of strategic and military affairs. He has been a senior research fellow at the French Institute of International Relations (Ifri) and the director of Ifri’s Security Studies Center from 2006 to 2015.

At Ifri, Etienne de Durand has followed more specifically French and U.S. defense policy; European security and transatlantic issues; nuclear deterrence and proliferation; and current military issues such as ongoing interventions and military transformation. He has authored numerous monographs and articles on these issues. He has also been the editor of the Focus stratégique electronic series.

He has regularly contributed to analyses for the French Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs. He was part of the group of civilian advisers for General McChrystal’s Afghanistan review in July 2009, and has been involved in the 2013 Defense White Paper in France.
