Docteur en histoire des relations internationales (Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne) et diplômé EMBA (HEC), Thomas Gomart est le directeur de l’Institut français des relations internationales, après avoir été directeur du développement stratégique (2010-2015) et directeur du Centre Russie/Nei (2004-2013).

Avant de rejoindre l’Ifri, Thomas Gomart a été allocataire-moniteur à l’Université de Marne-la-Vallée (1996-1999), officier appelé au ministère de la Défense (2000), Lavoisier Fellow à l’Institut d’État des relations internationales (Université-MGIMO – Moscou, 2001), Visiting Fellow à l’Institut d’études de sécurité (Union européenne – Paris, 2002) et Marie Curie Fellow au Department of War Studies (King’s College – Londres, 2003). 

Ses travaux actuels portent sur la Russie, la gouvernance numérique, la politique étrangère française, le risque pays et les think tanks. Son plus récent livre L’Affolement du monde. 10 enjeux géopolitiques (Tallandier, 2019) a été récompensé du Prix du Livre de Géopolique 2019.
