Franco-British Cooperation in the Light of the War in Ukraine Cross-Channel Strategic Dialogue

As the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine shattered the security of Europe, a new sense of cohesion has spread throughout Western nations.

More than ten years after the 2010 Lancaster House Treaties on Franco-British security and defense cooperation, two British and French think tanks, Chatham House and Ifri, set up a Cross-Channel Strategic Dialogue aimed at assessing the current state of and prospects for UK-France defense and security cooperation.

The project will cover a wide range of topics, from the future relationship with Russia and European security architecture to the future of the transatlantic relation, with an eye on policy considerations and military/capability/industrial implications. It will bring together French and British policy and military officials, alongside with research experts from think tanks and academia as well as defense industry representatives.

The first session “Franco-British Cooperation in the Light of the War in Ukraine” will take place at Ifri’s office in Paris on February 14th 2023, while a second seminar “Build back better: Shaping the future of Franco-British defense cooperation” will be held by Chatham House in London in Fall 2023.

This debate is accessible by invitation only.

This event is part of a joint Chatham House-IFRI research project, the "Cross-Channel Strategic Dialogue", investigating prospects for UK-France defence and security cooperation.

This project is supported by Airbus Group, BAE Systems, MBDA Missile Systems, Thales Group and Rolls-Royce Defence.
