On November 5–7, 2017, the Argentine Council for International Relations (CARI) and CFR will convene the tenth Council of Councils regional conference, "Latin America, the World Today, and the Future of Global Governance," in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Council of Councils is a CFR initiative connecting 29 leading foreign policy institutes in a common conversation on issues of global governance and multilateral cooperation. The Council of Councils draws on the best thinking from around the world to find common ground on shared threats, build support for innovative ideas, and introduce remedies into the public debate and policymaking processes of member countries.

In Buenos Aires, Ifri will be represented by Thomas Gomart, Director of Ifri.


The following issues will be addressed at the Tenth Regional Conference:

  • The Future of the Bretton Woods Institutions: Governance Challenges and Opportunities
  • What Can Be Done to Reverse the Fade of Liberal Democracy?
  • Combatting Transnational Organized Crime and Corruption
  • How Can the World Adapt to Rapid Technological Innovation, and What Role Should the Multilateral System Play?
  • Multilateral Crisis Response in Latin America
