The article discusses Russia’s cultural diplomacy understandings in the post-Soviet era, as implemented since the mid-2000’s.

It follows an instrument-centered approach, by focusing on the federal agency Rossotrudničestvo and the Russkiy Mir Foundation. It analyzes their institutional mechanisms, official documents, processes of internationalization and managers’ discourses. Contemporary Russian cultural diplomacy eventually turns out to be a state-centered policy, which is aligned with the government’s diplomatic and ideological priorities.
