Laura Lale KABIS-KECHRID

This week, Ifri, in partnership with CATS Network, is launching a series of five videos on the tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean, seen through the prism of the geopolitical rivalry between France and Turkey.

In her contribution, Laura Lale Kabis-Kechrid reviews France’s and Germany’s divergent strategies in the region. Because of its unique bond to Turkey, Germany tries to act as a mediator, whereas France has taken on a more confrontational approach. Moreover, their foreign policies towards Turkey could have significant consequences on their domestic policies.  The EU, through its « dual approach » to the crisis, seeks to bridge these gaps.
