Chinese Think Tanks: Ambitions and Contradictions Politique étrangère, Vol. 82, No. 4, Winter 2017-2018
Since Xi Jinping became president of China, the number of think tanks has considerably increased.
These bodies are encouraged to open up internationally in order to collect foreign analyses and promote official Chinese concepts. Researchers are restricted to working on subjects that are of use to the Party. They have also been subject to stricter political controls which could damage, over time, the international credibility of Chinese think tanks.
