The New World Trade Organization Paris : Ifri : Dunod, 1995. - 368 p. (Collection Ramses)

Eight years of negotiations, a treaty of 450 pages, 20000 pages of commitments, 119 signatures: the agreement which closed the Uruguay Round prolongs and amplifies considerably the GATT.
This book proposes an economic analysis of the problems this agreement has tackled to and of the achieved results. It examines in particular:

  • the 'normalization' of agriculture offering a solid hope, in the long term, of liberalization;
  • the new liberalization of the customs duties and the elimination of the last quotas in industry;
  • better 'conditional' protective rules in spite of the protectionist skid due to antidumping actions;
  • the emergence of international disciplines in the services and the intellectual property rights;
  • the reinforcement of the disputes' settlement process and the collective control of national trade policies.

The World Trade Organization organizes a more integrated international trade. France must take part in it without reserve: it will gain much by it.
