Governance
The French Institute of International Relations - Ifri was founded in 1979 by Thierry de Montbrial, its Executive chairman. It is officially recognized as a non-profit organization serving a mission of public interest.
Ifri's articles of association guarantee its independence. Its Board of Directors is composed particularly qualified leading figures, without any government supervision.
Ifri's aim is to promote debate on international issues through its debates and publications. The absence of dogmatism and the diversity of its researchers assure its neutrality.
The orientation and quality of its research activities are assessed by the Strategic Advisory Board, which is composed of prominent French and foreign figures.
Appraisal proceedings that include both internal and external assessment guarantee the high level of quality of Ifri's research studies and publications.
