Ethics Charter
The French Institute of International Relations (Ifri) is guided by a concern for independence, objectivity and integrity.
Its activities are based on the pursuit of the public interest and Ifri engages in them responsibly.
IFRI'S CHARTER OF VALUES AND PRINCIPLES
Adopted by Ifri's Board of Directors on December 12, 2018.
Consequently:
- The Institute does not support or defend any particular interest, nor does it support any cause or position of a partisan nature.
- The Institute ensures that its research and debate activities meet the requirements of intellectual rigor, absence of bias and responsibility.
- In its approach, it ensures an overall balance between stakeholders, as well as the plurality of opinions expressed.
- The requirement of responsibility implies that any public expression made using the Institute's name must be marked by moderation in language and judgement.
- Ifri's work is in principle public. However, due to their nature, some of them may remain confidential.
- The Institute ensures that the funding and material support it receives, whether public or private, French or foreign, does not jeopardize the implementation of the principles and values that define it. The Board of Directors is called upon to give its opinion on any funding which, by its size or origin, could cast doubt on the Institute's independence.
To implement these principles, the Institute's researchers and staff comply with the ethical rules laid out by the Board of Directors. An Ethics Committee has been set up by the Board of Directors. It comprises three members, including at least one member of the Board of Directors and one member of the Strategic Council. The Committee may be consulted by the Chairman of the Institute on any situation that may call into question the application of Ifri's own ethical rules.
The Ethics Committee is composed of Marie-Françoise Bechtel, Alain Dejammet, and Dominique David.
