Global Governance, Ukraine, and the European Union: Quo Vadis? Politique étrangère, Vol. 89, No. 2, Summer 2024

The technological revolution of the latter half of the twentieth century, 9/11, and the 2007–2008 financial crisis have delimited the West’s dream of harmonious globalization.

Since then, the international system has fragmented, hindering the development of a global governance that ought to see security challenges as its primary concern. In Europe, the war in Ukraine may prompt reckless decisions, including further enlargements of the Union.

Thierry de Montbrial, member of the "Institut de France", is the Founder and Executive Chairman of the Institute for International Relations. He is also the Founder and President of the World Policy Conference.
