Steadily declining for the past twenty years, defense expenses were the first to suffer brutal adjustments after the 2008 crisis. This places France in a paradoxical position: on the one hand, the budget reductions organized in 2008 and in 2013 weakened the defense apparatus to such a degree that we could rapidly face an irrecoverable decline; on the other hand, France managed up to now to keep most of its skills and therefore did not compromise the possibility of a future buildup. Since the French economic model is probably going to experience significant and perhaps brutal evolutions, while the geostrategic environment is at the same time deteriorating, it is essential to raise awareness in favor of a rapid boost of military spending.
